An Introduction to Korhonen Cuisine

To start there is a section on how the Korhonen eat and their customs, this will be followed by a guide to Korhonen plants and animals used in their cooking and to top it all off a selection of recipes from the heart of the Korhonen Empire. There will also be a special focus on what is probably the only Korhonen food which has achieved galactic recognition - Glooph!

Korhonen Eating Habits

Unlike most races the Korhonen posses no formal dining habits and they take no pleasure in it. Dining to them is just as routine as for example grooming is to the Dah'Screwe. Korhonen food is quite often just a mixture of essential nutrients. The Korhonen have no set meal times, to them food is only eaten when it is needed, and extras like flavourings only distract, it is not uncommon to see the lower ranks eating exactly the same food as the Emperor. There is no class divide in dining.

The Korhonen have two implements which they use when eating, one is similar to an earth spoon but adapted for the Korhonen mouth, the other, which is more common, is a straw. Korhonen prefer to eat in private, or in small groups. It is uncommon to see them sharing the dining experience with off worlders.

Korhonen Ingredients

Little edible vegetation can be found on Korhonen Prime, however what vegetation there is can be considered to be the finest in that area of space. Most vegetation exists in the form of beans which are widely used in Korhonen cuisine. There are many types, the Ghkorria Bean is regarded as one of the richest in the known universe, as a result large quantities are exported to other worlds which earns the Korhonen a tidy profit. Nothing like the Ghkorria Bean has ever been found and attempts to cultivate it off world have failed, top horticultural experts believe that it is something to do with the Korhonen soil.

Spices also play a part in Korhonen meals, but not because of the taste but because of the minerals they contain. Common spices include grunzutarita, gafar and gutirea. To most races a strong flavour is evident.

Beans and Spices

Animal Meat

Only two types of meat are commonly found in Korhonen cuisine:

Name of Animal:Appearance:Nature:Cubical Size: Taste/Mouth Feel:Information:
Kozuma Carnivore 150 cm³. Tough Reptilian similar in size and shape to an Earth German Shepard dog. It has a thick green skin and claws suited to ripping animals apart. It never attacks Korhonen, only aliens, because of this it is commonly used during planetary assaults. An example of this was during the invasion of the Rahn Homeworld where many Kozuma were released on the surface in an effort to wipe out Rahn population.
Glooph Glooph Omnivore 900 cm³ Neutral, Soft Glooph is an unusual looking worm with a yellow colour and a mud like texture. It one of the Korhonen's biggest exports to other worlds because of its taste and high nutrient levels. These can grow to over three metres long, and 30cm wide.

Traditional Glooph

Glooph is one of the galaxies favorite foods and is a large export of the Korhonen. The Glooph worms themselves may look ugly but beneath their hardened skin is a delecacy that is unlike anything else in the galaxy. Glooph is very popular in the Mogensen Royal Palace and despite the fact that the Rahn publicaly detest it they are one of the largest importers of the dish.

However, the markets are filled with cheap, mass produced Glooph similar to the countless varieties of "Fastfood" found on Earth. Companies like McGlooph and GK are the main suppiliers of this sub-standard "Fast Glooph" mainly sold outside the Korhonen Enclosure. It is advisable only to buy Glooph from Restaurants who display the official Glooph certificate declaring that the Glooph used was raised in a Korhonen Glooph Committee certified farm as many variants of "Fast Glooph" contain unhealthy addatives. The name "Fast Glooph" is considered innacurate by many as Glooph only move around 3 meters a year!

The Glooph worms are generally regarded to be one of the ugliest creatures in the galaxy, growing up to 3 metres long and weighing in at over 600kg. They have a yellowish skin and a segmented body, on one end they have a spiky "tail", the spikes have two purposes: to deter predators and to detect environmental factors such as temperature and light. Glooph have been known to live upto 480 years, and in that time they may only have moved five hundred metres.

Glooph are usually born in their thousands with under one hundred surviving to adulthood. When they are born their body is much smoother. Their spikes do not develop until they reach 5 years.

Ingredients (serves :4)
1 small Glooph worm (1m long, 10cm wide)
1 litre Goranagar Wine
Several Gafar Cloves
  1. Get a large bowl, pour in the Goranagar Wine and add the Cloves, leave to stand for one hour.
  2. Whilst waiting, take the Glooph Worm and using a sharp knife remove the both ends, make sure the tail area is fully removed.
  3. You should be left with around 70cm of worm, put the Glooph into the Wine and Cloves and leave overnight to allow flavours to diffuse into the worm.
  4. There are two ways to serve glooph, either remove from the wine and serve cold or heat to 240 for around 10 to 15 minutes to allow some of the wine to boil off. Serve Immediately.
  5. Glooph can be served mashed or sliced.

"Baby Glooph"

A Glooph Variant, basically it is a newborn baby Glooph under 3 years. At this age they are said to have a distinct flavor. Baby Glooph are always eaten raw.
